Condition monitoring and Tracking of locomotive system
Railway locomotives consists of tens of different subsystems such as:
- Diesel engines,
- Traction Motors,
- water, oil and fuel pumps,
- Compressors,
- Bogies,
- Chassis and body,
- Control subsystems,
- Brakes and its control subsystem,
- Suspension subsystem
- And so on.
Although these subsystems are different in terms of their job, design, construction and performance, but since they are all parts of a signle system, are dependent. Failure of one subsystem might affect the operation of others and change of operational features in one, might reveal a change in other subsystem.
Using a comprehensive condition monitoring system, will help to detect and identify most of failures in the locomotive, in a lower cost, higher performance and maximum failure coverage.
This can help increase reliability, improve uptime, increase safety, and reduce maintenance and repair costs.

Some other capabilities of a loco monitoring and tracking system
- Detection and identification of failures in locomotive subsystems
- Predicting the occurrence of failure
- Locomotive tracking in the network
- Reduction of train stop times in the repair department
- Reduction of maintenance and repair costs
- Detection of electrical and mechanical failures
- ….
